External bifolding french doors by Ron Currie

These are the latest addition to our made to measure ranges, bifolding french doors. When bifolding double glazed doors like these, just simple hinges are not sufficient, so these doors use high quality heavyweight industrial grade tracking to support the weight of the double glazed doors. The doors are guided along tracking to ensure smooth one handed operation of the doors. Please send us your sizes and we will gladly price the doors for you. The set illustrated below is constructed in idigbo and shows how they work.

The doors fold and slide to one side of the frame, guided by the track above in the head of the frame and in the bottom track in the sill.

The doors fully open to leave virtually the entire aperture open

The heavyweight track is encased in the frame giving a neat apperence. The doors are guided in the top track by a wheeled bracket which sits within the tracking and rolls along it.

The bottom of the doors is guided by a pin that runs within the bottom track. The bottom track is grooved into the sill for a neat appearence.

The doors fully closed as viewed from the inside. From the outside the doors would be completely flush with no visible ironmongery other than the hinges.

Pictured left is the ironmongery used on the internal face of the door set. The central handle folds flush into the door. This is used to operate the door set and pull the middle in while locking the flush bolts shown in the other picture. The door is locked using a hook type lock into the frame and the flush bolts into the head and sill of the frame. The doors are hinged centrally by Grade 13 Stainless steel ball bearing hinges.

The doors can be manufactured in any of the timbers our standard french doors are available in. They are supplied complete with the ironmongery as shown in the pictures. The ironmongery is available in Chrome, Brass and Satin Chrome. On the pictured version we have used 2 hook locks to secure the door. As standard we only install one lock. We can also install a multipoint locking system to lock the doors, but the handle will hamper the doors folding together. Glass can be supplied as an extra. This would be supplied loose for you to fit on site. Please read our treatment page.

In the table below, there are prices for two different patterns in various timbers. If you cannot see the pattern you require, please email/fax us the pattern you are interested in and we will give you a quote.

Limitations

The doors generally can only be operated and locked from the inside. We can make the locks accesible from the outside, but you would not be able to secure the flush bolts as these are on the inside. The doors can only open outwards. We can only draught seal the doors properly if they are opening out. Opening inwards is possible, but the draught sealing and weather protection would not be as good. The door hinged to the frame will always be 60mm smaller than the other door. This is to facilitate the correct operation of the track. This means the divide of the 2 doors will not be central.
